In his paintings, Jos Verwiel likes to process images of old technology and science, typographical documents or advertisments from glamour magazines. As archeological fragments, these cultural images react with his stable, frontal compositions under many layers of transparent paint. The canvas is simultaneously carrier and subject; it marks the contours around the central playground, while details from furniture and architecture provide simple, clear and clean shapes.<\/p>\n
On the other hand, his incorporation is very complex. In a laborious painting process of applying and removing, an unstable balance arises with pleasant dissonance and enough friction to keep up a dialogue between colour and form.
